The Second ICAM-China Research Summit for Emerging Scientists was held from December 7 to 9, 2024, at the Yangtze River Delta Physics Research Center in Liyang City, Jiangsu Province. The conference was jointly organized by the Institute of Physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), ICAM-China, and the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory. Over 80 experts, scholars, and doctoral students from 29 universities and research institutions from around the world attended the conference.
The conference primarily targets doctoral students who are planning to pursue postdoctoral research. It aims to provide a platform for these graduates to interact with potential postdoctoral advisors through academic exchanges, promoting healthy mobility of outstanding doctoral graduates within domestic research institutions and assisting them in planning and developing their future postdoctoral careers.
On the morning of December 8th, Prof. Jiangping Hu, Deputy Director of IOP, delivered the opening remarks. He gave a brief introduction of ICAM-China and its founding objectives, and expressed hope that this platform would enhance academic exchanges and cooperation among young scholars. Following this, an expert from the Postdoctoral Fund Management Office of the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation gave a special online presentation on postdoctoral science funds. During the conference, Prof. Hui Chen from IOP and Prof. Can Liu from Renmin University of China presented keynote speeches titled "Exploring New Structures and Properties in Low-Dimensional Materials" and "My Path of Scientific Growth—A Long and Bright Road Ahead," respectively.
Thirty-five doctoral students from prestigious universities such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Science and Technology of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Hong Kong Baptist University, and the University of California, Irvine, delivered oral presentations. Additionally, 21 participating doctoral students showcased their latest research progress and achievements through poster presentations. Postdoctoral advisors and students engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on scientific frontiers and career planning in relevant fields.
