The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President's International Fellowship Initiative, PIFI, is a funding program designed to establish scientific cooperation and promote research communication around the globe. It is open to all scientific research personnel worldwide.

Aiming at promoting global research mobility, the PIFI covers scholars at different career stages, from Nobel laureates to young master's students.

Application Procedures

1. PIFI Call for Applications

PIFI is open to applications all year round, which are reviewed in batches. Applicants can follow the official LinkedIn accounts of CAS and CAS PIFI, or PIFI website (pifi.cas.cn) for news on PIFI.

2. Applicants: Find a Host Researcher

Applicants should identify an appropriate CAS host researcher working as a faculty member at a CAS-affiliated host institution before making their application. PIFI program does not accept direct applications from foreign scientific research staff.

3. Host Researcher: Guidance and Submission

CAS host researchers should guide applicants to prepare the application form and all materials required and be responsible for submitting the application to the host institution via the CAS Academia Resource Planning (ARP) system.

4. Host Institution: Approval and Submission

CAS host institutions should conduct preliminary review of all the applications and submit them to the PIFI management department of CAS.

5. Eligibility Check

The PIFI management department should conduct eligibility check of all the applications.

6. Mail/Panel Review

Applications should be reviewed within 3 months of submission.

7. Funding Decision

The results will be notified to CAS host institutions once they are released.

8. Start Your PIFI Journey

PIFI implementation can commence once the results are announced.
