A delegation of 5 researchers from Humboldt University of Berlin (HU Berlin) visited the Institute of Physics (IOP) of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) from October 9 to 12. They participated in the 2nd IOP - IRIS HU Joint Workshop organized by the Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory (SLAB) in Dongguan, and then visited IOP and Huairou Campus.

The 2nd IOP - IRIS HU Joint Workshop was held in SLAB from October 9 to 10. Prof. Hu Jiangping, deputy director of IOP, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, and Prof. Zhang Guangyu, deputy director of SLAB, introduced the basic information of the Laboratory. German speakers included Prof. Jürgen Rabe, director of IRIS (Integrative Research Institute for the Sciences) of HU Berlin, Prof. Norbert Koch, deputy director of IRIS, Prof. Emil List-Kratochvil of IRIS, Dr. Xiaomin Xu of IRIS, Dr. Antje Vollmer of Bessy (Helmholtz Center Berlin), and Dr. Jens Martin of IKZ (Leibniz Association). Chinese speakers included Prof. Lu Li, Prof. Li Ming, Prof. Zhou Xingjiang, Prof. Wang Wenlong, Prof. Chen Jianing, Prof. Zhang Jianjun and Prof. Fang Shaobo.

On the morning of October 11, the delegation held a round-table discussion with relevant researchers of IOP. Prof. Jürgen Rabe, director of IRIS of HU Berlin, introduced the basic information of IRIS. Prof. Huan Qing and Prof. Jin Kui of IOP introduced related instruments and equipment in IOP. Prof. Qian Tian of IOP, Dr. Antje Vollmer of Bessy, and Prof. Wang Jiaou of Institute of High Energy Physics of CAS respectively introduced large-scale scientific facilities of their own institutions. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the specific issues of instruments, equipment and large-scale scientific facilities. Then, the two sides discussed the content and ways of future cooperation between IRIS and IOP. They reached a consensus that they would sign a memorandum of understanding and a joint IOP-Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship. In the afternoon, the delegation visited the National Lab for Superconductivity and the Laboratory of Microfabrication.

The delegation visited One Facility & Two Centers of IOP on October 12 in Huairou Science City, learning about its construction progress and future development. They also visited the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Researchers of IOP and HU Berlin jointly organized the 1st IOP - IRIS HU Workshop focused on two-dimensional materials in June of this year. At the workshop, they reached a preliminary consensus on long-term cooperation in the future.
