The annual popular science event of "Dianzan · 2019 China Science Communication" organized by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) was held in Beijing on the evening of December 17. The official bilibili account of the Institute of Physics (IOP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), "二次元的中科院物理所(IOP in the 2-D world)", was honored as one of the top 10 We Media of popular science of 2019. Wen Ya, secretary of the Party committee and deputy director of IOP, received the award on behalf of IOP. After IOP's WeChat official account was honored as one of the top 10 We Media of popular science of 2017, IOP’s official account for popular science won the honor for the second time.

The official account of IOP was registered in bilibili in March this year. The account specializes in science communication targeting teenagers. Managed by the science popularization team composed of front-line researchers in IOP, it is engaged in weekly live streaming at fixed time in IOP laboratories for science communication. In addition, the account spreads scientific knowledge to audiences using various forms such as scientific articles, short videos and outdoor live broadcasts and with lively expressions and humorous performance, showing its creative spirit of "Internet + science popularization".

By the end of November, within eight months after the account’ opening, it has published more than 50 live broadcasts and 192 videos, which have been played nearly ten million times. Attracting 600,000 fans, it has become the No. 1 live scientific broadcast on the platform, among bilibili's top players in the field of science and technology. It successively organized or participated in large-scale online and offline activities such as "first ever black hole image released through live broadcast", "online youth gala organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Young League to mark the centenary of the May Fourth Movement", "public science day co-organized by IOP and bilibili" and "national popular science micro video competition of three-minute science". These activities aroused wide attention and strong response, and provoked a blizzard of news coverage. Mainstream media such as CCTV News, People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Daily, China Youth Daily and Jiangsu Satellite TV conducted network-wide reports worldwide about those activities in Chinese, English and Japanese, with the Cyberspace Administration of China providing network-wide content delivery.

As a national research institution with a long history of more than 90 years, IOP not only constantly makes great achievements to scientific research, but also positively carries out science popularization and undertakes social responsibilities. In the age of media convergence, IOP has established a media convergence matrix mainly focusing on science popularization on major platforms, such as WeChat official account, TikTok account, bilibili account, Zhihu account and Yangshipin account. These IOP media accounts have been followed by over 3-million fans, enjoying very extensive influence.
