The Workshop on ICAM-China International Cooperation was held at the Yangtze River Delta Physics Research Center in Liyang, Jiangsu on October 16-18, 2021. The workshop was co-sponsored by the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOP, CAS) and the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Sciences (KITS), and undertaken by Yangtze River Delta Physics Research Center. Nearly 30 experts attended the workshop, including CAS Academician Zhu Shiyao of Zhejiang University, Prof. Zhang Fuchun of KITS, Prof. Wang Yupeng, Prof. Hu Jiangping, and Prof. Zhang Jiandi of IOP, CAS, Prof. Zi Jian of Fudan University, Prof. Feng Donglai of the University of Science and Technology of China, and Prof. Jia Suotang of Shanxi University. Liu Hua from the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and Liu Xiuping from the Bureau of International Cooperation of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), made invited presentations. Ye Minghua, Mayor of Liyang City, and Zhu Wei, Deputy Director of Liyang Hi-tech Park Management Committee also attended the workshop.

Established in 1999, the Institute for Complex Adaptive Matter (ICAM) brings together research institutions and physicists from different regions in an open and dynamic partnership to carry out cooperative research and training exchanges. ICAM-China was established in January 2012. To date, it has developed into a collaborative organization of interdisciplinary academic cooperation and exchanges consisting of 25 research institutions, covering from theory to experiment, from physics, chemistry, and biology to materials science. ICAM-China aims to provide a platform for cooperation and exchanges for interdisciplinary research on physical, materials, and life sciences, and to support and promote international academic exchanges and educational activities in China in a continuous and in-depth way.

At the workshop, Mayor Ye Minghua delivered a welcome speech. Prof. Piers Coleman of Rutgers University, co-director of ICAM, introduced in detail the global research cooperation, academic exchanges, and financial support of ICAM on a global scale, hoping to foster academic cooperation and exchanges between China and the United States through the organization and operation of ICAM-China. Liu Hua of MOST gave a detailed introduction to the key international cooperation projects of MOST. Liu Xiuping of NSFC also elaborated on the funding system of NSFC and its international cooperation projects. The participating experts then had heated and in-depth discussions on the future development model of international cooperation of ICAM-China and put forward valuable suggestions on how to build an international academic exchange platform, expand international cooperation channels, and promote stable and sustainable international cooperation and exchanges through ICAM-China.
