On December 4, 2025, Beijing International Workshop on Emerging Materials for Thin-film Solar Cells was held at the Institute of Physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The event was jointly initiated by Prof. Qingbo Meng from IOP and Prof. Edgardo Saucedo from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Spain. It was organized by the Laboratory for Renewable Energy, Center for Clean Energy, and Center for International Collaboration of IOP, with Prof. Qingbo Meng chairing the workshop.
The workshop gathered over 40 experts and scholars from 15 universities and research institutions worldwide. Attendees included Prof. Xiaojing Hao (the University of New South Wales, Australia, Fellow of Australian Academy of Science and Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering), Prof. Susan Schorr (Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie, Germany), Prof. Byungha Shin (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea), Prof. Zacharie Jehl Li-Kao, Prof. Edgardo Saucedo, and Dr. Yuancai Gong (UPC, Spain), Prof. Nicolae Spalatu (Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia), Dr. Victor Izquierdo-Roca, Dr. Pedro Vidal Fuentes, and Dr. Alex Lopez-Garcia (Catalonia Institute for Energy Research, Spain), Dr. Jon Major (University of Liverpool, UK), as well as leading scholars from domestic institutions such as Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, Central South University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (CAS), Nankai University, and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.
Prof. Jiangping Hu, Deputy Director of IOP, delivered an opening speech to welcome the participants. He highlighted IOP’s long-standing commitment to open collaboration and expressed hope that the workshop would further strengthen academic dialogue and cooperation between IOP and international peers. Qi Fu, Deputy Director of the Human Resources Office, introduced IOP’s profile, development plans, and international cooperation efforts.
The workshop focused on cutting-edge research in inorganic thin-film solar materials and devices, featuring presentations by 17 invited experts on the latest advances in the field. Following the sessions, participants visited the Laboratory for Renewable Energy at IOP.
