SECUF Achieves Major Breakthrough in All-superconducting Magnet
Date:27-01-2026 Print
The Synergetic Extreme Condition User Facility (SECUF) has set a new world record for all-superconducting user magnets. On January 24, the facility achieved a magnetic field of 35.6 tesla with a usable aperture of 35 millimeters.
SECUF is a major national science infrastructure project under China's 12th Five-Year Plan. It passed national acceptance in February 2025.
The record-breaking magnet is the result of years of joint research by the Institute of Electrical Engineering and the Institute of Physics (IOP), both under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). This powerful tool is designed to support cutting-edge research for domestic and international teams.
This breakthrough positions SECUF as a core support for frontier research in materials science, life sciences and other key fields. It will empower researchers to explore the unknown laws of the microcosmic world, accelerating scientific discoveries and technological innovations in basic research and high-end equipment manufacturing.
