Professor Gang Chen is currently Boya Distinguished Professor of Physics at international center for quantum materials of Peking University. Previously, he was a full Professor at the University of Hong Kong. He received his PhD degree at University of California Santa Barbara in 2010. He is mainly interested in strongly correlation physics, and has made some contributions to the fields of quantum magnetism, correlated electrons, itinerant frustration, topological materials, mesoscopic physics as well as ultracold atoms. He was awarded 2016 Daniel Tsui fellowship and 2018 Qiushi outstanding Youth Scientist.

报告摘要:

In this talk, I will explain the unexpected emergent physics in the triangular lattice cobaltates. For the bilayer cobaltates, I will show that the seemingly unrelated physics of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless and Kugel-Khomskii physics can be related and emerge through an elegant organization of active Hilbert space. For the monolayer cobaltates, I will show that the spin supersolidity in the full frustrated regime leads to the unusual spin dynamics and the Dirac spin liquid provides a natural interpretation of the spin dynamics.
