Abstract:

I will cover two emerging areas of magnetocalorics in this talk, the criterion of first-order of thermomagnetic phase transition and the high-entropy alloys (a material of particular interest in recent years).

Our study found new criteria, based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE), to determine the order of thermomagnetic phase transitions and the critical point at which first-order crossovers into second-order phase transition. Despite that it is being widely applied in the community, the analysis in multiphasic materials is not further investigated, especially in cases where their phase transitions occur nearby. We will also demonstrate how this criterion can be utilized to identify magnetic impurities, even when not immediately evident.

The high-entropy alloy (HEA) design concept has revolutionized alloy designing, leading to new materials with good mechanical properties. Applying it to magnetic materials offers a chance to develop new ones that can solve bottlenecks, especially in magnetocalorics. We will show the fascinating world of magnetocaloric HEA compositions, delving into the intricacies of HEAs located in the center of the multiprincipal elements phase diagram can lead to subpar MCE performance. A directed search strategy, on the other hand, yields a breakthrough discovery: a series of FeMnNiGe?Si??? HEAs boast the largest MCE reported among magnetocaloric HEAs. We'll examine the far-reaching impact of this discovery and unveil our most recent findings on the new MCE benchmark of magnetocaloric HEAs.
