The 2020 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award Ceremony was held in Beijing on November 3. Academician Wang Weihua from the Institute of Physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), won the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award.

Aiming to tackle the difficulties of amorphous formation mechanism and the challenges in exploring new amorphous materials, Academician Wang Weihua put forward the idea of using elastic modulus as parameters to regulate amorphous structures and properties, establishing elastic modulus criteria, and realizing semi-quantitative prediction and regulation of amorphous alloy composition and properties. He developed many new amorphous materials, proposed a rheological element model, and explained the physical mechanisms of mechanical and rheological behaviors such as amorphous strength and deformation, laying a theoretical foundation for regulating the mechanical properties of amorphous structures. Based on this model, he established a new design method for strengthening structural inhomogeneity, and synthesized a series of highly resilient amorphous alloys, contributing to overcoming the brittleness of amorphous alloys and promoting the application of amorphous materials.

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation was founded by He Shanheng, Liang Qiuju, He Tian and Li Guowei, four Hong Kong patriotic financiers, in 1994. It aims to reward outstanding Chinese scientists for serving China's modernization drive. Over the past 26 years, it has selected and rewarded 1,414 outstanding scientific and technical workers.
