The opening ceremony of the new campus of Yangtze River Delta Physics Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Center") was held on the morning of April 9, 2021. The unveiling ceremony of the "Student Innovation and Venture Practice Center" jointly built with 18 well-known universities was held on the same day. Academician Fang Zhong, Director of Institute of Physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Xu Huaqin, Secretary of the CPC Liyang Committee, delivered speeches respectively.

Secretary Xu Huaqin said that with the integration of the Yangtze River Delta, by relying on the Center's platform, we can combine the strong innovation chain of IOP in the field of new energy with the solid industry chain of Liyang in energy storage, and give full play to the Innovation and Venture Practice Center, thus improving energy utilization efficiency, diversifying production and application practices, and making the Center a regional electric demonstration model, so as to attract outstanding students from famous universities and industry elites to join innovation and entrepreneurship activities in Liyang. Director Fang Zhong said that scientific and technological innovation should serve the national and regional socio-economic development and promote the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. As a "national team", IOP established the Center to implement the national scientific and technological strategy and cultivate a platform for academic exchanges and science popularization. Through this platform, scientists can express their ideas freely and make in-depth discussions to generate new viewpoints, ideas and methods, bring important scientific problems and research directions into focus, and open up new areas of studies. The Center can help spread scientific knowledge and popularize scientists' spirit, thus contributing to physics studies and even the scientific and technological development of China.

Later, Secretary Xu Huaqin and Director Fang Zhong jointly unveiled the Center. Gu Changzhi, Deputy Director of IOP, Ye Minghua, Mayor of Liyang, Yao Yugui, Director of Physics Department of Beijing Institute of Technology, and Li Hong, Director of the Center, jointly unveiled the Innovation and Venture Practice Center. Leaders of IOP and Liyang, representatives from 18 well-known universities, and representatives from relevant departments participated in the activity.

Since its establishment in 2018, the Center has made full use of the advantages of resource pooling, actively explored the new system with the characteristics of "multi-party linkage," built a high-level R&D and service platform, and continuously built a new model of dynamic academic exchanges and science popularization. In the future, through extensive cooperation and solid work, the Center will strive to become a national-level high-tech transfer base, science popularization base, world-renowned academic exchange center, national important think-tank base and student innovation and venture practice center, to make significant contributions to China's scientific and technological development.

From April 8 to 10, the new campus also held academic conferences such as the 1st Electric China Development Strategy Seminar, the 1st Applied Physics Forum & the 3rd Physics Minds Strategic Forum, and the Exchange Symposium of the "Student Innovation and Venture Practice Center", featured by more than 150 high-level academic lectures, with nearly 350 attendees, including scientists in physics and other relevant disciplines and representatives from universities and enterprises.
