The Third Conference on Physics under Synergetic Extreme Conditions and Summer School Held in Huairou
Date:25-07-2024 Print
The Third Conference on Physics under Synergetic Extreme Conditions and the Summer School of SECUF (Synergetic Extreme Condition User Facility) 2024 were held at the Huairou Campus of the Institute of Physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the China Construction Yanqi Lake Scenic Hotel. The event was jointly organized by IOP and Jilin University.
This conference invited 115 speakers from 10 countries and staff members from 23 experimental stations of SECUF to deliver academic presentations. A total of 140 presentations were given, including 9 keynote lectures and 23 station introduction reports during the summer school, as well as 4 plenary and 104 parallel session presentations at the academic symposium. The event attracted over 500 researchers from both home and abroad, who attended the conference and visited the laboratories. Both the number of presentations and attendees exceeded previous years.
During the summer school, several renowned professors from both home and abroad delivered specialized reports on cutting-edge science and technology under synergetic extreme conditions. Staff members from SECUF provided detailed introductions to each experimental station, and participants had the opportunity to visit some of the Beijing-based experimental stations.
At the academic symposium, Academician Zhong Fang, Director of IOP, and Xiongjing Lan, Deputy Director of the Huairou Science City Management Committee and Deputy Head of Huairou District, delivered welcoming remarks. They jointly presented certificates to the representatives of three foreign teams participating in the CAS International Exchange Program (PIFI) - Distinguished Team Project: Prof. Yoshiya Uwatoko from the University of Tokyo, Japan; Prof. Shigeru Kasahara from Okayama University, Japan; and Prof. Alexander Eaton from the University of Cambridge, UK.
Prof. Takasada Shibauchi from the University of Tokyo, Prof. Xingjiang Zhou from IOP, Prof. Ruiri Du from Peking University, and Prof. Subhendu Kahaly from the European XFEL facility gave plenary presentations. The symposium included five parallel sessions:
1.Emerging Quantum Materials and Phenomena under High Pressure
2.Characterization of Physical Properties under Synergetic Extreme Conditions
3.Quantum Transport and Quantum Devices of Low-Dimensional Materials at Ultra-Low Temperatures
4.Ultrafast Physics and Technology
5.High-Temperature and High-Pressure Large Volume Press Techniques and Applications
The conference promoted SECUF to domestic and international users, fostering greater exchange and collaboration in research under synergetic extreme conditions, and maximizing the operational efficiency of the facility. Additionally, an expanded user committee meeting was organized during the conference to gather opinions and suggestions from experts regarding the operation of the facility and future planning, which will aid in its development.
SECUF is a major national scientific infrastructure project initiated during China's 12th Five-Year Plan, co-built by IOP and Jilin University. The Beijing portion has entered full trial operation and is open to users from both home and abroad. It provides advanced experimental conditions such as ultra-low temperatures, strong magnetic fields, ultra-high pressures, and ultrafast optical fields for frontier research in material synthesis, physical characterization, quantum control, and ultrafast processes.
