CECAM Flagship Summer School: Understanding Molecular Simulation Held at IOP

Date:16-05-2025 Print

The CECAM Flagship Summer School: Understanding Molecular Simulation was held from April 26 to May 3, 2025 in Beijing. The event was organized by the Institute of Physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). It brought together over 130 renowned experts and young scholars from 12 countries and regions.

The school featured lectures by Professor Daan Frenkel, a leading scholar in molecular simulation, Member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences, and Professor at the University of Cambridge. As the co-author of the classic textbook Understanding Molecular Simulation: From Algorithms to Applications, Prof. Frenkel delivered a comprehensive and systematic exposition of the core methodologies in numerical simulations of many-body systems.

The program also included six special lectures by distinguished scientists, including Professor Ignacio Pagonabarraga from the University of Barcelona, Spain, and Professor Xinzheng Li from Peking University.

A dedicated hands-on session was a highlight of the training school, during which participants strengthened their understanding by implementing simulation algorithms through independent programming. In the poster session, attendees actively engaged in academic discussions and exchanged research insights.

Established in 2024 as the first Asian node of the European Centre for Atomic and Molecular Computations (CECAM), CECAM-CN is jointly founded by six institutions, including the Institute of Physics, Beijing Computational Science Research Center, and Peking University. Its mission is to promote international collaboration and advancement in computational science.

This flagship training school has created a valuable platform for scientific exchanges between Chinese and international researchers, provided young scientists with a unique learning opportunity, and helped build important bridges for future global collaboration.
