The 12th International Workshop on Surfaces and Interfaces of Quantum Materials Held at IOP

Date:11-06-2025 Print

The 12th International Workshop on Surfaces and Interfaces of Quantum Materials was held from June 4 to 6, 2025, at the Institute of Physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Hosted by Group L03 of the Laboratory of Optical Physics, Group SF06 and Group SF08 of the Laboratory for Surface Physics, the workshop had Academician Kuijuan Jin, Professor Jiandong Guo and Professor Jiandi Zhang serving as co-chairs of the organizing committee.

This workshop brought together over 70 top scholars from more than 10 countries and regions around the world. They conducted in-depth exchanges focusing on cutting-edge research in the surfaces and interfaces of quantum materials, jointly promoting innovative development in this field.

CAS Academician Kuijuan Jin delivered the opening speech first, extending a warm welcome to all participating scholars. She reviewed the development history of the workshop, pointing out that this event not only provides an important platform for interdisciplinary cooperation, but also serves as a stage for young researchers to showcase themselves and facilitate academic exchanges at home and abroad.

The workshop included sessions such as keynote reports and poster presentations, covering hot research directions including topological materials, two-dimensional quantum systems, interfacial superconductivity, and spintronics. Twenty-four invited experts from renowned universities and research institutions in Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, Romania, Japan, South Korea and China delivered wonderful reports, sharing their latest experimental results and theoretical breakthroughs.

A special session for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers was set up at the workshop. More than 20 young scholars presented their innovative achievements and engaged in in-depth exchanges and lively discussions with professors and conference participants from home and abroad.

Professor George Sawatzky, an internationally renowned scientist in the field of condensed matter physics and a Member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the Royal Society, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, delivered the closing speech, summarizing the wonderful reports and highlight works of this workshop.

Professor Jiandi Zhang, co-chair of the workshop, stated in his summary: The achievements of this workshop will inject new momentum into the field of quantum materials. We look forward to overcoming key challenges in the next-generation quantum technologies through sustained international cooperation.
