Date:23-07-2025 Print
The 4th Conference on Physics under Synergetic Extreme Conditions, jointly held with the 2025 Summer School of the Synergetic Extreme Condition User Facility (SECUF), was held from July 14 to 20, 2025 at the Huairou Campus of the Institute of Physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Swan Lake View Hotel. Co-organized by IOP-CAS, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), and Jilin University, the event invited 124 speakers from 12 countries and staff members from 18 experimental stations of SECUF to deliver academic reports, with a total of 151 reports presented. Specifically, the Summer School included 9 keynote reports, 8 Young Users reports, and 18 experimental station introduction reports; the Academic Conference featured 8 plenary reports and 108 parallel session reports. The conference attracted over 550 domestic and international researchers to attend in person and visit the laboratories. Both the number of reports and participants exceeded those of previous editions, with enthusiastic discussions, a vibrant atmosphere, and positive feedback throughout the event.
During the Summer School, a number of renowned domestic and international professors delivered special reports on cutting-edge science and technology under synergetic extreme conditions. Staff from SECUF provided detailed introductions to each experimental station, and participants visited the experimental stations located in Beijing.
At the academic conference, CAS Academician Zhong Fang, Director of IOP-CAS, and Xiongjing Lan, Deputy Director of the Huairou Science City Administrative Committee and Deputy District Chief of Huairou District, delivered welcome speeches respectively. They also jointly presented certificates to representatives of four foreign teams participating in the CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) – Distinguished Team Program. Meanwhile, awards were presented for the " Top 10 scientific highlights of 2024". Distinguished experts delivered excellent plenary reports, including Academician Xianhui Chen from the University of Science and Technology of China, Professor Philip Moll from the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (Germany), Professor Ariando Ariando from the National University of Singapore, Professor Elbert Chia from Nanyang Technological University, Professor Tuson Park from Sungkyunkwan University (South Korea), Professor Zhuoyu Chen from Southern University of Science and Technology, Professor Xiaochun Gong from Zhejiang University, and Professor Nanlin Wang from Peking University. The academic seminar was divided into four parallel sessions: Emergent Quantum Materials and Phenomena under High Pressures; Novel Physical Properties of Materials under Extreme Conditions; Quantum Transport in Low Dimensional Materials and Quantum Devices at Ultra-Low Temperatures; Ultrafast Physics and Technology.
This conference has achieved the goal of promoting SECUF to domestic and international users, which is conducive to strengthening exchanges and cooperation in scientific research under synergetic extreme conditions and giving full play to the operational effectiveness of the facility. In the meantime, an expanded meeting of the User Committee was organized during the conference to solicit opinions from domestic and international experts and scholars on the operation of the facility and suggestions for its subsequent planning, which will contribute to the future development of SECUF.
As a national major science and technology infrastructure of the 12th Five-Year Plan period, SECUF is mainly constructed by IOP-CAS and co-constructed by Jilin University. It has now passed national acceptance and entered the formal operation phase, opening to domestic and international users. The facility can provide advanced extreme experimental conditions such as ultra-low temperature, strong magnetic field, ultra-high pressure, and ultrafast optical field, supporting cutting-edge research in materials science, including material synthesis, physical property characterization, quantum control, and ultrafast process research.
