Technologies for high performance and high reliability vacuum systems:TwisTorr drag stages and AFS

Agilent Technologies Inc.

Sandro Vittozzi completed his studies in electronics in 1993 before joining the US scientific company Varian inc. where he initially focused his attention on vacuum and electrical testing methods. From 1998 he worked in Research and Development field designing turbo pumping systems and leak detectors and patenting three new technologies. He has been the member of AIV (Italian Association for Vacuum) from 2000 to 2006. In 2010 after Varian inc. has been acquired by the worldwide company Agilent Technologies, he worked on technological integration between Rotary Vane Pumps technology and electronic integrated controllers. From 2013 he has the responsibility of Marketing Product Manager for Turbomolecular Pumps and Turbo Pumping Systems in Vacuum Product Division of Agilent Technologies where he contributed to the creation of an advanced family of turbopumps and pumping systems for Research and Academic field.

Abstract:
Turbomolecular pumps performance and lifetime are vital for modern Ultra High Vacuum systems operation. We will analyze Agilent turbo pumps technology platform that enables top vacuum performance combined with silent and long operation, and very low vibration. TwisTorr drag technology will be presented in a detailed way and shown in operation where it combines high level compression ratio for light gases, low pump power consumption and reduced pump size. The beneficial impact of the patented AFS (Agilent Floating Suspension) technology on pump vibration, noise and robustness will be part of the discussion as well.
