报告摘要:

The conversion of materials for artificial photosynthesis or wastewater treatment is accomplished in milliseconds or even seconds by assembling atoms over semiconductor photocatalysts [1]. Bandgap-excited electrons, holes, and molecular intermediates that are reactive on this time scale are key to the efficient assembly of atoms to yield the desired products. An ionic semiconductor lattice is deformed around such long-lived carriers to form polarons; each excess carrier is self-trapped in a Coulombic potential well created by ions shifting from their equilibrium positions. Our efforts to characterize long-lived polarons photoexcited in NaTaO3 [2,3] and TiO2 [4] photocatalysts using infrared light absorption are summarized in this talk.
