Crystalline Secrets Under Pressure: Unveiling with Single Crystal Diffraction

Reflecting on the advancements in high-pressure physics and chemistry, we witness a relentless progression. Material properties and intricate processes are being unveiled daily across the space of achievable thermodynamic conditions. However, as in past decades, understanding crystalline atomic structures remains critical for interpretation. In this era of complex studies on intricate systems, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, when feasible, offers a distinct advantage over the more conventional powder X-ray diffraction technique. It allows for a direct visualization of atomic structures and their behavior under high pressure. When coupled with other experimental techniques in support of continually evolving ab-initio methods, it facilitates the exploration of diverse systems, models, and processes within a multiparameter informational space. In this discussion, we will dive into the current state made in single-crystal X-ray diffraction, encompassing both conventional and high-resolution regimes, exemplified by studies conducted under extreme conditions, including high-pressure and the technical aspects of low and high-temperature conditions.
报告人简介:
Konstantin Glazyrin, Beamline Operation Manager at the Extreme Conditions Beamline P02.2 (PETRA III, DESY, Hamburg, Germany). He received his Ph.D. degree in 2011 from the Bayerisches Geoinstitut in Bayreuth, Germany. After joining DESY in 2013, he became permanent beamline staff of P02.2 in 2017. In 2020, he completed the habilitation process at the Laboratory of Crystallography at the University of Bayreuth in Germany. His research fields include crystallography, novel chemistry, solid-state physics, and critical physical phenomena under high-pressure conditions.
